but oh, you seem so serious
I SHOULD ENJOY THE SWEET INTERROGATION
HAIR: Brown
WEIGHT: 180 lbs
HEIGHT: 6’2”
GENERAL: As a king, Edmund is expected to look serious, and he almost always does. The only time he can be found smiling is when he doesn’t think he is being watched. He would be handsome, though, if he did so; it is acknowledged that he is good-looking, though a bit gravely handsome at that. He is very tall, with broad shoulders and broad chest.
ATTIRE: Also because he is a king, Edmund is expected to dress well, though he hates it. He would much rather be sitting in the library in comfortable clothes reading, but instead he is expected to wear his finest leather jerkin and tunic and leggings, and go stand out in front of the public and give a speech.
[/ul]
i should not be telling you
I'M FLATTERED BY YOUR INTEREST
DISLIKES: Giving in speeches, being in public, not getting his way, hearing rumors about his wife, the fact that he doesn’t even really know his wife
STRENGTHS: Fair, good at keeping up appearances, intelligent
WEAKNESSES: Doesn’t know how to woo his wife, isn’t very articulate or romantic
QUIRKS/HABITS: Running a hand through his hair when he’s nervous, going off alone without telling anyone
FEARS: That his wife will have an affair and cause scandal, or that his children will do something stupid, or that any of them will grow to hate him. Rebellion, war, etc.
GOALS: To keep his kingdom strong, unified, and under control. To make his wife love him.
PERSONALITY It is safe to say that Edmund David Heartbridge isn’t exactly a typical king. He isn’t the golden boy who likes to make speeches, who his subjects rally around; instead, he is brooding, quiet, and likes to be alone most of the time, reading or studying law books. Perhaps he prepares a political speech that will never be delivered. He feels much more at home in a room of diplomats than he does in a crowd full of people at a party, or even in a room alone with his wife. He feels like no one really understands him, especially his wife. And though this is largely his own fault, he would never admit it, because he is the king, and no one would dare blame him for anything. He is smart, smarter than most people would give him credit for, simply because he is not good at articulating his thoughts sometimes and is not a big party person. He sees things that people don’t think he sees, and hears things people don’t think he hears. It is this ability of observation which makes him a king, though he is not good at observing other things.
For example, he is absolutely hopeless when it comes to his wife. Sure, they look like a nice happy couple in public, for the public’s sake. But really, they aren’t. He is too shy to express to her what he thinks about her; with his first wife, there was no real relationship, only the sex that it took to produce an heir; she was quiet and kept to herself. Anne, though, is vibrant and open and warm and friendly. And Edmund has absolutely no idea how to respond to it. Deep down he is a romantic, and he is intrigued by her, but he simply doesn’t know what to do. He tells himself that he is just too busy, and that it isn’t his responsibility to make his wife happy. But when he started hearing rumors about her flirting with the knights, he realized that he needed to win his wife’s heart before someone else did. It would not do to have her cause a scandal by having an affair. He knows that she thinks he is old, but he wants to win her heart. He also hopes to have a good relationship with his children, who, he is sad to say, he has pushed away because he hasn’t paid enough attention to them.

FATHER: King Frank Heartbridge (deceased)
SIBLINGS: William Heartbridge, Susan Heartbridge
OTHER: his children, his wife
FAMILIAR/PET: he has a lot of horses and hunting dogs, but those are for sport.
CURRENT RESIDENCE: his castle
WEAPONRY: He has to know how to protect himself with a sword, and he is pretty good, though not an expert; he normally relies on his bodyguards.
HISTORY:
-Being a royal and the oldest child, he was spoiled his whole life and was used to getting his way.
-His parents were assassinated when he was young, and that has made him very somber. He never talks about it.
-He has never been very close to his siblings, as he was groomed to be a king, and they received separate training. He is certain they resent him for getting special treatment.
-His first wife died also. He did not really love her, as the marriage was made for a marriage alliance for the good of his country. The good thing to come out of that marriage are his children, who he loves, but is not very close to, due to the fact that he is very busy.
-His marriage with Anne was arranged, though he did not mind. He knew that he would be placed in a marriage alliance for the sake of helping his country, and he thought that he would not mind getting married again. He did not think it would be unusual if she were younger than him, as such things happen all the time. He doesn’t know if he loves her, but he is definitely attracted to her.
-He has obviously consummated his first marriage, as he has children, but he has not yet bedded Anne. He was too afraid that she would think he was old, even though he thinks he is in the prime of his life, so he never went into her bedchambers on their wedding night. But he wishes he had. Someday, he wants to have their wedding night; but first, he wants to win her heart, which he knows will be an uphill battle.
-He is surprised by the fact that his son reportedly loves a village girl, and knows that it will not be good for either of them. He wants to be happy for them, but he is just looking out for his son’s best interest.
-He has always loved jousting and watching knights and gambling upon them, but it is true that some of those knights have aroused his suspicion because he has heard that some of them are flirting with his wife. He can only wonder who initiated it… Or if she is even still a virgin…
-He is renowned for being a good king due to his fairness. Ever since he first became king, at a rather young age due to his parents’ early death, he has been a good ruler, ensuring that everyone has fair treatment and that no one is executed for no reason…
-Unfortunately, despite his abilities at being a good king, he is not very good at being a good husband or good father. It’s not that he is a bad man, he just isn’t very good at expressing his feelings. Sometimes he has a bad temper when he doesn’t get his way. He things tradition should be followed at all times.

EXAMPLE:
Miss Elizabeth was the last to leave, and before she did so she looked at him, their eyes meeting for a long moment. Something passed between them, unspoken, and whatever it was strengthened Charles’ resolve. It was then, when the room was quiet and the others were gone, when everything else was forgotten except himself and Jane, that things grew harder. His stoic façade was difficult to maintain, as it was quite unlike him, but this was a serious moment, and he was quite determined not to ruin it. He had done enough of the like already, what with his sudden disappearance and reappearance, and, as he had stated, he was aware that it was quite untoward. But he could not have waited another moment. He needed to do this. And Jane, beautiful Jane, perfect Jane… she would know what was in his heart. She had always seemed to.
With her question, Bingley's brow furrowed in frustration as he thought back to the reasoning behind his words. "I have," he repeated, his words softened by shame and regret. His confidence was failing him a bit as he continued, but he was here now, the door closed behind him this time, and truly, this was not a place from which he wished to escape, because by Jane's side - or kneeling before her, as it were - was the place in the world where he wanted most to be. He looked up at her and ran his tongue over his lips. "I... I..." He looked up at her and every plan that he had made up in his mind to follow, the careful rehearsal he had done with Darcy, was entirely forgotten when he looked into her eyes. "I love you. I have loved you from the moment I first laid eyes upon you, and I was a fool for not telling you so sooner," he burst out.
As he watched her with the utmost care, he wondered at the way her blue eyes sparkled; they always did so, he thought, but now, especially so. And he realized that they were tears. “Oh, this is a disaster, isn’t it?” he mumbled miserably to himself, running a hand through his red hair nervously and looking at the floor, unable to meet her gaze out of guilt. He couldn’t believe he was making her cry. He really was an ass. He was speaking rapidly now, scarcely pausing long enough to breathe. “I know there is some possibility that your feelings for me are not what mine are for you,”

Daring to look up at her again, his eyes searched hers, and he continued, “If I knew that you were in London, I could not have borne our separation, and I could not bear the thought of ever being separated from you again. Netherfield has seemed empty to me without you dancing in it its halls or lying in its beds.” His face colored at that; not that he wished to see her ill again, or thought it proper to bring up that in any other context, but he forged ahead in spite of his embarrassment. “I am come back to Netherfield, Jane, my dearest, loveliest, Jane, and the place needs a mistress to manage it, for I am horrible at such details with which you excel.” He stumbled on his words again, but finally got out, “I am here before you, Miss Bennet, baring my soul, and begging you to relieve me of my agony. If it pleases you, of course… say you’ll be my wife, and make me the happiest man in the whole world.”
