When Henry VIII failed to get pealed to the alluring Anne Boleyn into his bed without a ring on her finger, he appealed to Rome to have dissolve his marriage to the long-suffering Queen Katherine. The Pope was in dire straits—he feared angering either Charles V or Henry... And so, in 1528, he compromised and allowed Henry to take a second wife. Anne became the “Princess Consort,” though all were dismayed by the strange solution. Soon afterward, Anne gave birth to a son, Prince Arthur.
The year is now 1532. Katherine and Anne have grown accustomed to their situation and tolerate one another, though Henry still seeks ways to end his first and “unlawful” marriage. Princess Mary is soon to be sent to France to marry Prince Henri. Anne is pregnant again, and has begun to introduce reformist literature to Henry. Meanwhile the new Lord Chancellor, Thomas More and Imperial Ambassador Chapuys secretly planning to rid England of Anne; and Thomas Cromwell is whispering in the King’s ear that the Pope does not have the authority to rule on his marriage...or on anything else.
What will become of the reformers, or of Henry’s two wives? Is Anne carrying a Duke of York or another princess? Will the King finally renounce Rome, Katherine—and his beloved daughter?
Step into the court of King Henry VIII and rewrite history.
